Porn teacher cleared

8th February 2008 at 00:00
An British teacher who was struck off in New Zealand for serious misconduct involving hardcore pornography has been allowed to resume teaching here. After resigning in disgrace from a teaching job north of Auckland, Jonty Hawkins returned home in 2004 to Bures, Suffolk. He has been working during the past year as a supply teacher.

England's General Teaching Council ruled that the allegations were unproven and there were technical difficulties in analysing the hard drive. Mr Hawkins said he had been the subject of a smear campaign and had not contested the original hearing because he was depressed and did not intend to stay.
