pound;150m VAT fee

Around pound;150 million would be raised by the Government if it placed value-added tax on private-school fees, it emerged this week.

The Treasury revealed the figure in response to a question about the VAT-exempt status of private schools by Stephen Byers, former school standards minister and Labour MP for North Tyneside.
