Pounds 35m boost

Training schemes feature heavily in a list of 186 projects granted Government support this week. Ministers have granted Pounds 35 million to the projects, most of which include measures to improve skills levels, under the Sector Challenge initiative set up under the last government.

Dr Kim Howells, minister for lifelong learning, said: "I am pleased that so many sector challenge projects address the need to improve skills and training. Clearly, raising skill levels is essential to increased competitiveness and the long-term profitability of sector businesses."
