The school newsletter from Glasgow's Holyrood Secondary, written with Catholic Education Week in mind, goes heavy on the launching of the new school prayer and the blessing of new house badges at a special Mass.

But heidie Finbarr Moynihan pulls no punches about putting too much emphasis on the life of prayer when he reminds parents, after exhorting them to take part in the religious activities of Catholic Education Week:

"But remember, God helps those who help themselves."

This is not a theological point but a reference to the virtues of hard work for the Standard grade and Higher exams.
