Chris's rapport with the future king, who once described him as a "splendid chap", emerged after a Highgrove dinner in 1994. HRH also sad if Woodhead went, he would go too. A call to St James's Palace to get royal reaction to his departure met with: "We won't have any comments about Chris Woodhead." Grieving is best done in private, we suppose.
