Protection squad on their mark

Of course, the child-protection issue is likely to come back to haunt the Government as ministers mull over what approach to take in colleges which are now teeming with "vocationally-inclined" 14 to 16-year-olds and lots of adult students.

So we asked the Home Office how many criminal record checks have been carried out so far in FE.

A spokesman helpfully explained the data "needs to be quality-assured and tested" before it can be released to journalists.
