The pupils now arriving . . .

Office for Standards in Education please note, one of the best managed and taught primary schools in the country is about two miles north of Preston Station in Lancashire. The school field backs on to the railway and on Tuesday October 3 what seemed to be the whole school was lined up in impeccable order, waving at the passage of our steam train, the last one of a series of three, which were the first on that route for 28 years.

The headteacher obviously had priorities correct, and to have such a large group so well controlled and behaved speaks volumes for motivation and discipline. Clearly no further inspections are needed there for years and one hopes many of the pupils will enjoy becoming active in the heritage industry.
