Not that things are any better in other Government press offices. Another TES hack contacted the Number 10 press office earlier in the week for a quote from Tony Blair about the launch of a political essay competition for 16 to 19-year-olds. The response? Write your own quote, we'll check it.

The Diary thinks this new approach to public affairs has great potential.

Any readers who want to make up quotes for the premier should send them to us and we'll see what his people think of them. A bottle of Champagne or equivalent for the best of the bunch.
