(Photograph) - Rap rewarded: a trio from the Froebel School in south London (from left, Josh Harrington, Leo Hammett and Dominic Hughes) won the eight to 11-year-olds' category in the 1995 TESYamaha National Youth Rock and Pop Awards with their rap song, "Rabbit". They performed at London's Earls Court last week.
The event, intended to discover the next generation of composers, attracted more than 1,200 entries. Judges included rock star Phil Collins and impresario Harvey Goldsmith. Heidi Vogel from Greenfields School, Forest Row, Sussex, won the 16 to 18-year-old award, Ross Hamilton from Chryston High, Glasgow, came top of the 12 to 15-year-old category and overall winner was 18-year-old Chris Martin from Sherborne School, Dorset, who won Yamaha equipment worth Pounds 1,000 and a Pounds 500 voucher for his school.
