Request for audit of 'misspent' budgets;In brief

The Local Government Association has asked the Audit Commission to check the accuracy of ministerial claims that councils are misspending school budgets. Education Secretary David Blunkett last week claimed almost a third of local authorities were spending too much on red tape and not passing increases in education funding on to schools.
