A group set up by the Further Education Development Agency to raise the profile of research in further education colleges held its first conference in Blackpool this week.

Ursula Howard, director of research and information at FEDA, said: "A great deal of interesting and important research projects are undertaken in colleges. I urge the education sector to give this important area of research the recognition it deserves."
