Q: I enjoy my school and the induction year and I have a permanent contract.

But my partner has to move so I need to hand my notice in at Whitsun, to leave this summer. I'm dreading breaking the news. Will the head understand or am I about to have the worst few months?

A: A couple of years ago I would have said "have your flak jacket ready". Now, with teacher supply problems easing and rolls falling across the country you may not face the same sort of comeback. After all, the reason you're leaving is outside your control.
