Review of teacher training

The review of teacher training called for by McCrone could last more than two years, beyond the date for implementing the majority of recommendations, Bruce Robertson, Highland's director of education, said last week.

Mr Roertson, an adviser to the McCrone inquiry and a strong advocate of locally based training for rural areas, said teacher education institutions had not been enthusiastic about attempts to develop Gaelic-medium courses.
