Ridings under threat

22nd June 2007 at 01:00
The Ridings, once labelled "the worst school in Britain", may close under proposals being considered by Calderdale council next week. Sue McMahon, from the Calderdale branch of the National Union of Teachers, said the decision to close the school had already been taken and any consultation process would be a sham.

"What doesn't seem to have been considered is the progress that the school is making, as judged by inspectors in the most recent inspection," she said. If the council goes ahead, the school could be shut by 2009.
