Politicians are used to introductions but not usually from comics - the comedy usually follows later.
But Frank McAveety, Glasgow's modernising council leader, had no less a warm-up than Fred MacAulay to get the audience in the mood at last week's conference on lifelong learning (page four).
MacAulay was the unusual choice of chairman for the day, and McAveety was late. So the conference was basically treated to the inimitable MacAulay one-man show - for free.
Inevitably, wags were suggesting a similar conference next year hosted by MacAulay's other television half, Ally McCoist.
