Rival formulas to back science

The Government and the Conservatives have unveiled rival approaches to address concerns that university subjects, including science and engineering, are facing an uncertain future. Ministers are to order an inquiry by the Higher Education Funding Council, while the Conservatives have pledged to pay students in the subjects pound;2,000 bursaries when they graduate.
