A last look at local hero Tommy MacKay's year as president of the British Psychological Society, which culminated in the annual conference at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre, attended by the hierarchy of Glasgow University in their academic finery to hear MacKay's presidential address and confer an honorary degree.
MacKay told the packed auditorium: "The last time I was at the SECC I recall telling my friends as I left that this place coul never be as good again. But good and all as that Status Quo concert was . . ."
It had been a hard year as president, he said, with 300 e-mails a week. Once as he worked late into the night he fell asleep on top of the keyboard, woke up with a start and pressed the "send" button, only to realise that he had typed pages of kkkks with his forehead.
He immediately sent off an apology: "All these ks were a mistake. It should have read zzzz."
