Top luvvy David Tennant got chatting to a TES reporter at the inaugural conference of the British Shakespeare Association about the best ways to teach Shakespeare. The Scottish actor, feted for his RSC Romeo, was unimpressed by the sorry situation in schools.
"It's difficult for teachers, because they have to get you through the exam. There's an element of learning quotes and received opinions off by heart. I don't know whose responsibility it is to change that... Who's the minister? Estelle Morris?" Our reporter interjected that Charles Clarke was now the man in charge. Mr Tennant's face fell: "Oh, well, we're fucked in that case."
