Rubbish deal

(Photograph) - Teachers march past uncollected refuse in Marseille this week. Many teachers joined refuse collectors and other public-sector workers in strikes across France over proposed cuts in pension benefits.

But teacher unions have agreed not to disrupt baccalaureat exams, which started this week, after ministers made concessions over controversial plans to devolve responsibility for some educational jobs to regions
