Sacked officer wins appeal

A senior education officer who lost her job after being accused of gross misconduct has won her appeal against dismissal. Sue Wilton was one of three senior officers sacked by Leicestershire County Council after an investigation into irregularities in the education department accounts.

She will now take up a new post with the council, but will not return to her old job as a unit manager. Two colleagues, Clive Hadfield and John Jordan, who were also dismissed, have not been reinstated. Mr Hadfield's appeal was rejected, while Mr Jordan withdrew his appeal.

Last year's review revealed an overspend of Pounds 6.5 million over two years. The council has stressed that no dishonesty has taken place.
