Sad girls, politicos and manuals

7th January 2000 at 00:00
AS a deeply uncool teacher I wholeheartedly endorse the view of Sarah and Imogen Mourby that would-be trendy teachers are sad.

Equally sad, I think, are young people from advantaged backgrounds who appear pleased with themselves and profess contempt for othrs; so I am glad that Sarah and Imogen are not pupils of mine.

On the other hand, I dare say that, like most children, they seem better once you get to know them.
