Safe from the GTC

10th October 1997 at 01:00
The big issues of the day were well to the fore at the General Teaching Council - appraisal, probation, incompetent teachers, etc etc. But the crunch question, readily identifiable because it alone was pressed to a vote, was where the council should hold its annual "meet the teachers" session. Edinburgh won the day by 20 votes to nine.

Sighs of relief, particularly from Ivor Sutherland, GTC registrar and denizen of Peebles, one of the alternative venues.
