A special conference on salaries has been agreed for September.

The union voted to commission management consultants Coopers amp; Lybrand to undertake a study on a review of pay to support recruitment and retention of staff and to provide a proper salary progression.

A left-wing amendment, proposed by former union president Carole Regan, calling for a high-profile publicity campaign and specific salary claim for 1999 was passed.
