In groups ask students to research ways of using the Sun's energy: * solar cells; photovoltaic and photoelectric cells:

* find local houses with solar heating systems on the roof.

* solar furnaces - see www.darvill.clara.netaltenergsolar.htm

* solar towers, being developed in Australia. Using solar cells, for example from Middlesex University Teaching Resources - - carry out an investigation into how to generate the greatest electrical output from the cell.
