In search of SEN sensibility

Andrea Bilbow of the attention-deficit charity ADDISS is spot on when she says: "If you know a child can fly off the handle you have to manage it and anticipate it will happen" ("Primary fails in High Court bid to overturn ruling on ADHD", July 31).

As a teaching assistant I am often in a position where I act as a link person between challenging children and teachers. Surely some of those skills used in special schools can be transferred into the mainstream?

And if Brian Lamb's comment that "teachers are failing children with SEN" reflect all mainstream education ("SEN education hampered by outdated cultural attitudes", August 7), those responsible really do need to plan, manage, and anticipate the behaviour of their children.
