Second race award

TES writer Reva Klein has won a Commission for Racial Equality "Race in the Media" award for the second year running. As joint 1995 winner with The Big Issue in the specialist magazinejournal category, freelance journalist Ms Klein was praised this week for her range of work in The TES and for identifying key issues and ideas for teachers to follow up.

Ms Klein's coverage of race issues included features on racial violence in schools; Holocaust education; an American project on teaching tolerance; English as a second language learners; underachievement and disaffection among minority ethnic pupils; and anti-racism in the nursery.

The CRE awards were established in 1992 "to acknowledge those print and broadcast journalists who make a significant contribution to public appreciation and understanding of race relations in the UK".
