See the new Arvon Foundation prospectus, just out, for the usual exciting programme of creative writing courses at its four residential centres. In the Easter holidays, try Lindsay Clarke's course for first-time novelists and others (April 17-22 in Devon). The following week offers Linda Newbery and Nick Manns on Writing for Children or Jean Sprackland and Anthony Wilson on poetry (writing and reading) for both new and experienced poets.

In summer half-term, there's Starting to Write (and Keeping Going). As usual, practising teachers of under-18s can apply for a pound;110 grant towards the pound;475 cost of a course. Full programme details at
