The merger of the Scottish Consultative Council on the Curriculum and the Scottish Council for Educational Technology will go ahead from July 1 next year, Sam Galbraith, the Children and Education Minister, has confirmed.

Mr Galbraith said the new body would give advice to ministers and support to teachers "to ensure that we have a challenging, flexible curriculum with a sense of purpose".

This latest quango will be headed by a board of eight members and a 20-strong consultative council, both chosen by ministers.
