Shortage? Then bump up wages
Who am I? Some fanatical anarchist or some subversive relic from the age of the cold war? No, I am a cold-minded, conservative teacher of economics in a state school.
My training in economics has taught me that the shortage of teachers is simply a signal that the wage rate on offer in this market is too low to attract entrants and encourages existing teachers to leave the market. If my pupils can understand this elementary economic principle, why can't the Education Secretary and his advisers?
