We are pleased to report that the agreement reached last Friday between the management and unions to give teachers a three per cent pay rise was perfectly in line with our own prediction.

But ritual is ritual and has to be observed. And so the teachers' side split into its constituent parts so they could formally discuss their response to the offer.

Jack Duffy, representing the NASUWT, mischievously asked for a large room - not to lie down, but to house his one-man delegation.

Drew Morrice, a North Lanarkshire comrade of the NASUWT's Tino Ferri, snorted: "A room large enough to contain Tino Ferri's ego?" But, as both Ferri and Morrice know, size does matter.
