A record 421,556 students enrolled on FE courses in 1999-2000, according to the first annual report from the Scottish Further Education Funding Council. Forty per cent were part-time. The report also reveals that matre students are turning to colleges in increasing numbers, with 55 per cent of FE learners aged 25 or over; that represented 201,959 enrolments last year compared with 37,871 in HE from the same age-group.
