YOUNG singers are invited to take part in Schoolsong 2000, a new choral event to encourage every school to foster a choir. Up to 250 choirs will have the chance to perform in 10 major concert halls across the country in the autumn and 40 will be invited to London's Royal Festival Hall for the Schoolsong 2000 National School Choirs Festival next January.

Supported by the National Union of Teachers and launched next week, the competition is for schools rather than local authority choirs.
