* I was practising "Away in a Manger" with Year 2 and thought it was time to explain the words.

We got to the end: "Fit us for heaven to live with you there".

"What do you think that means?" I asked. Silence.

I tried another approach. "What do you think God wants us to be like when we get to Heaven?" "Dead," said Thomas.


* Our Year 1 RE lesson focused on the story of Mary and Joseph's trip to Bethlehem. After reading the story and discussing it in som detail, it was still apparent that some children had not understood important parts of the story. One was under the belief that Mary was married to Joe Smith, while another thought Mary was riding on her donkey to go to the opera.


* Two 11-year-olds hurtled into the building at the end of break.

"Slow up," shouted the head. "You should be walking through that door discussing the finer points of English grammar."

"But Sir, we was."
