Soundbites;TES competition

8th October 1999 at 01:00
During our key stage 2 maths test, one mathematically challenged lad was faced with the question: "A postman empties the postbox at the following times: Monday to Friday at 8am, 5pm and 6.30pm; Saturday at 4pm; Sunday, no collection. What's the latest collection time on Tuesday?" His optimistic answer, born out of weary hope, was: "At 4pm, if you're lucky."

A Year 10 pupil was defeated by the exam question requiring him to describe the functions of four parts of the human sex organs, as labelled in two diagrams. However, he could answer the next one: Name the structure where implantation of the embryo normally takes place.

"The bed."
