Spinning Jenny

EYEBROWS were raised at Wirral College at the news of an interesting invitation handed out to a gone-but-not-forgotten figure from the past.

The college's former principal Jenny Shackleton was invited to address a major London conference on Reconstructing Further Eduction in the 21st Century earlier this month.

Some have asked, uncharitably, whether she was the best person to talk about FE in the new century. Jenny, readers may recall, took early retirement a year ago after a damning inspection report on Wirral College.
