School: Pitmedden Primary, Aberdeenshire, school roll 135, classes involved P4-7; headteacher Carole Hawthorn What was the best arts company to visit your school in the past year? The Live Wire Theatre Company How did you hear about them? From publicity sent to the school.

How long did they spend with you? About two hours.

What did they do? A show called "It's Getting Hotter", about conservation and pollution. There were two actors and they brought props including balloons and a car that pumped out pollution. It was all about the greenhouse effect and global warming. It was very effective.

Did you do any preparation? Yes. The children had been working on an environmental project and the company had sent worksheets and information packs for the teachers beforehand, so they were all fairly well versed in the subject.

Did you do any follow-up work? Yes, it was all incorporated into the class projects.

What did the visit cost? It was free, because the company usually works with industry. School visits are therefore subsidised.

What was so good about them? It was very well rehearsed and the play was precisely geared to the relevant age groups. They were absolutely on the children's wavelength and because the children had done so much work beforehand, they were able to get the maximum out of the visit.

How relevant was it to the curriculum? Spot on.
