Streaming may impede progress

Children born in the summer who are put into ability streams can suffer educationally, academics say. A study by the University of London's Institute of Education found that by the age of seven, just over 70 per cent of children born in September were in a top stream, compared with fewer than 30 per cent of those born in August.
