Strike over job losses

12th June 2009 at 01:00

Members of the University and College Union have voted for strike action at Birmingham City College next Tuesday in protest against plans to cut 76 jobs.

The union is also threatening action at Barnsley College, which is planning to cut 53 jobs.

Meanwhile, strikes hit Leeds College of Art and Design and Suffolk New College this week as part of the UCU's continuing dispute with colleges that have failed to honour a five-year-old pay deal which would raise a mid-ranking lecturer's salary by Pounds 4,511 a year, according to the union.
