Student numbers rise

The number of students from the UK and overseas applying to study in Scottish universities for 2008-09 has risen by 1.5 per cent, which contrasts with a 9.2 per cent increase in England. But the number of Scottish students applying to Scottish universities shows a slightly bigger rise of 3.6 per cent.
