Synchronise half-term breaks

14th November 1997 at 00:00
I am writing to you on behalf of all those teachers who, like me, believe in life after school and enjoy spending time with their families.

It frequently happens that where both parents are teachers working for different education authorities, they are unable to spend their half-term holidays together or with their families because the holiday dates do not coincide.

Would it not be too much to ask for the powers-that-be to arrange the same half-term holiday dates, especially in neighbouring authorities?

After all, we have a national curriculum organised so that all children learn the same things! Could we not have a nationally organised half-term?
