Teenagers click with literature

22nd October 2004 at 01:00
The TES recently gave advanced notice of the Teenage Kicks event in Huddersfield. As an author of teenage fiction, I am a veteran of many such events. I expected maybe 25 teenagers to turn up for a day of writing, drama, poetry and art. To my delight more than 80 turned up - that's right, 80 teenagers turning out for literature on a Sunday!

It just goes to show that inspirational librarians and teachers can elicit an enthusiastic response from young people. It was a model for such events.
