14th July 2000 at 01:00
Do you enjoy using ICT in your classroom? You could win pound;2,500 for yourself and pound;2,500 for your school or institution in the TES BECTA 2001 ICT in Practice Awards.

The awards, covering England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, aim to promote and reward exemplary ICT practice among teachers, lecturers, trainers and advisers. Lord David Puttnam will present the winners with their cheques at the British Educational Training and Technology show in January 2001.

As well as rewarding existing practice, the organisers hope to discover practice that can be widely emulated. Winners of the primary and secondary level special educational needs teachers awards will show:

* a clear understanding of the role of ICT in pedagogy in SEN. The judges will be looking for innovators and role models whopromote learner autonomy and develop practice that reaches outside the school into homes and beyond;

* an understanding of the links between ICT in a subject context and the raising of educational standards. The successful nominee should be able to match learning outcomes to the use of various types of ICT and demonstrate that their practice is relevant to national guidelines, initiatives and policies;

* a sustained and integrated use of ICT over a period of time. Winners should be able to show good practice over time, run with a forward-looking, sustainable plan for development and which is suitable for adoption by a wide variety of teachers.

The closing date for entries is July 28. To make nominations and for more details, visit the website:
