The annual Bank of Scotland Children's International Theatre Festival in Edinburgh, the UK'S largest children's arts festival in the UK, is expecting an audience of more than 10,000 for the 75 performances at the Royal Lyceum, Traverse and Garage theatres, all designed for the 3-14 years age group, during the nine days of festival from May 27 to June 4.

Eight theatre companies from Canada, Italy, the Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark and Switzerland are on the programme, and five companies at the festival will also be touring to Shetland, Elgin, Inverness, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Stirling and Perth, from May 26 to June 17.

Festival director Tony Reekie expects 6,000 children to benefit from the festival subsidising travel costs for 90 schools' groups coming from every region of Scotland.
