Themes from the apothecary

30th January 2004 at 00:00
One of London's least known but most rewarding museums is The Old Operating Theatre and Herb Garrett. In The Apothecary Pack, some of its fascinating collection on historic medical practices is made available to a wider audience. Twenty printed sheets cover such themes as Hospital and Church (maps and photographs to investigate), Quack and Leech (relations between doctors and patients), or Language and Shopping (names of drugs and how they were obtained). These are linked to a set of activities in literacy, numeracy, science, art and history. The Apothecary Pack costs pound;5 from The Old Operating Theatre, 9a St Thomas's Street, London SE1 9RY.
