Three of the best

Elizabeth Buie reports on a change in direction for the SQA's annual awards to pupils and schools

The awards also recognise the achievements of the Candidate of the Year, sponsored by educational publishers Leckie and Leckie. The three finalists in the schools category, who are once again all from state schools, are considered to have done well academically but also in other ways.

They are: Joni Leigh Miller, from Maxwelltown High in Dumfries and Galloway; Kyshiea Steele, from Kilchuimen Academy in Highland; and Yixin (Kirsty) Wan, from Earlston High in Scottish Borders.
