Still on the bench, Lady Cosgrove took time off from presiding over the affairs of Celtic Football Club to consider the state of affairs in East Ayrshire.

Adjudicating over the respective merits of Lou Macari and Fergus McCann will no doubt be a dawdle compared with the battle between the parents of St Paul's primary and East Ayrshire Council in the persons of director John Mulgrew and education chairman Tom Farrell.

But let's hope the noble lady did not get her papers mixed up: Macari is suing Celtic for Pounds 431,000.
