Tickets to ride for primary

(Photograph) - An unusual effort by P6 youngsters from Eaglesham primary has seen them go into the tourism business.

An enterprise project at the school turned pupils into guides for what, the council says, is believed to be the first-ever bus tour of East Renfrewshire. The debut outing for Exquisite Eaglesham's Bus Bonanza enterprise company towards the end of the session took the form of transporting fellow pupils around the area.

The pupils have produced an activity book with quizzes, puzzles and worksheets, and a feedback form for use on the tour. There is even a song, "Around East Ren", to the tune of "Is This the Way to Amarillo?", which is supposed to be sung by those aboard the bus, including conductor Emma Taylor, pictured left.

Linda Congalton, the school's acting headteacher, described the initiative as "one of the most imaginative and real-time enterprise education projectsdone by a Primary 6class anywhere.

"Not only are they hiring a bus and running a highly-organised bus tour, but they researched information, wrote and illustrated brochures, found out a great deal about their own area and sharpened up their information technology, writing, reading and public- speaking skills," she said.
