I AM a Year 6 teacher and language co-ordinator in a "leafy Surrey" school. Last year 83 per cent of our pupils attained at least level 4 in English. This apparently is not good enough for the Government.

As a result of three different initiatives I have been awarded 10 days out of my classroom up to Christmas: to observe my colleagues, receive extra training and consult with experts. If our results dip a bit next summer, will I be awarded the whole of next autumn term for training?
