(Photograph) - Treasure seekers: Pupils from Euxton Primrose Hill Primary School in Chorley formed the first children's judging panel for the Smarties Book Prize. The outright winner was Hilary McKay's novel for 9 to 11-year-olds, "The Exiles at Home" (Gollancz). An appreciation of the work of the illustrator Janet Ahlberg, whose death was announced at the awards ceremony, will be published in The TES next week.
