Tucked off

27th November 1998 at 00:00
Ron Tuck, exams supremo at the Scottish Qualifications Authority, told secondary heads he bumped into one of their number at Edinburgh's Haymarket station on his way to work early one morning.

"Is that the train to Glasgow?" the heidie enquired.

Tuck said it was and the heidie jumped aboard as it moved off. He did not have time to say it was the one that took about two hours.

"It's a bit like Higher Still. It's going in the right direction: it just takes a little longer to get there," Tuck explained to justified groans.
